Art & Music
Fall 2023
Fall is in the air and our students are enjoying the routine of being back in Art & Music.
We began the school year with self portraits. The Kindergarten class drew and painted a large self portrait in primary colors while 1st-3rd refined proportions and techniques of coloring. The 4the-6th graders' portraits had a choice of more interpretive portraits in the Fauvist style of the early French painters. We learned that Fauvism means “Wild Beast” so their choice of coloring could be extremely experimental and not in the realm of traditional colors. Students are now interpreting a fall painting of Lake George by Georgia O’Keeffe and the beautiful red-orange trees of the season.
In Music K-3 are enjoying movement & singing songs old and new. Everything from Okino Kirino (in Japanese), Razzama Tazzama, Cousin Peter to dances like Bo Diddley, Circle Round The Zero & Los Machetes. Third graders have jumped right in learning ukulele beginning chords of “C & F” and preparing the traditional Sandwich Song for the Fall Concert.
In grades 4-6th we reviewed much of our Ukulele skills and are refining our skills in Tablature(the “C” scale) & learning many more chords. Some students are advancing their skills to play ukulele intro melodies such as Albatross Rocks & Boris the Bassman. Of course, we are also singing/playing old favorites such as Ghost Chickens, Memories & The Nights. Sarasponda on rhythm sticks for grades 4-6 has also been very fun along with Contra dancing The Bridge of Athlone and practicing positive social skills. The Fall concert is around the corner and we are sure to make you smile with all our musical endeavors.
